My Rating Of Hollowcliff Detectives Series:
Summary of Hollowcliff Detectives Series:
Fae like to play dangerous games…
In detective Mera Maurea’s experience, three things motivate a murder: secrets, convenience, or passion. But none of the three can explain why the Summer King is dead.
With a tight deadline hanging over her head, Mera has to figure out who’s the culprit before the frail balance that holds the city of Hollowcliff together crumbles into dust.
To aid her—or turn her life into a living hell, hard to tell which—is her fae partner Sebastian Dhay, a snarky detective with a penchant for the illegal. He’s a volatile wild card who will do anything to solve the murder, even if it means his doom.
The clock is ticking. And Mera is hiding a deadly secret of her own.

My Opinion of Hollowcliff Detectives Series:
Learning from my mistake in the previous series, I decided to rate the entire series of this newly discovered author (newly discovered by me). Let me tell you, after listening to four books, I have a lot to say.
Female Main Character:
I mean, give me a woman with morals. Give me a woman with a sexual appetite. Give me a woman open to communication. And most importantly, give me a detective and I am hooked.
Maybe it’s because I wanted to be a detective growing up, but seeing women in this field makes me so happy. It shows strength, in the endurance of gruesome scenes. It shows intelligence, obviously. It shows a strong sense of loyalty and passion to protect the helpless. All that and so much more is presented in Mera Maurea.
She has a reason behind everything. Behind every lie, behind every desire. It is so evident what drives her, who is important to her, and what morals she is willing to bend. She is a person, she is human 😉 She has all the complicated emotions that come from being home and at the same time, she is better. What she went through makes her better. She has unbelievable strength, a little bit of a dark side, and enough justice to fill a city.
Main Male Character:
If you don’t like someone who would literally let the world burn just to heat you, you would not like this book. This man, this gorgeous, sadly blonde/white-haired man is the definition of I would kill and die for you.
He has no Morals, he develops and adapts them based on the people he loves. He is completely and utterly flexible on what his morals could be. His sister tells him to kill a man, no questions asked, he is on it.
I love how powerful he is as well. You always expect the main male character to be powerful, but he has realistic but powerful magic. It is sometimes shown that some things are unreachable, even for him. Still, he sure puts up a fight.
Did I mention he would literally do anything for the main character?
Writing Style / Plot:
It was admittedly a little bit hard to follow as an audiobook. There was a lot of retelling of the past and time jumps. As an audiobook, I feel like I didn’t hear when the scene changed between the present and the past.
As far as fantasy goes, I have to admit, this was by far the goriest one. There was violence in the characters, this insatiable need for a warped justice and I loved every minute of it. I felt every minute, every slice of the sword, and that alone should tell you enough about the writing style itself.
Side Characters:
They were great, truly. I just loved the main characters so much that I forgot to focus on them. As far as I can remember though, they were great, in-depth. But as I said, I was focusing on our detectives.
I remember how small comments and hints were made about pasts of the side characters It hinted at a history, hinted that the characters were their own, not just an extension of Mera.
Recommendation for Hollowcliff Detectives Series:
If you are anything into Gory fantasy, if you enjoyed the show Lucifer, or if you just want to see a completely dedicated man. Go read this book NOW.
Hint: It’s currently free on Audible if you have a subscription.
