The Accidental Dating Experiment By Lauren Blakely

My Rating of The Accidental Dating Experiment:

The Accidental Dating ExperimentSummary of The Accidental Dating Experiment:

I’ve spent the better part of eight years resisting my best friend’s little sister. What’s one more week? The hardest week ever when it includes a proposition to be her dating coach.

Eight years ago I fell into a secret summer fling with the bright, big-hearted Juliet before our lives went in different directions.

Now, I’m the grumpy to her sunshine on a popular dating podcast we host, and when a wealthy fan gives us a charming coastal cottage as the biggest thank you ever, we head to the town where I grew up to give it a makeover.

And find the house has only one bed.

Located under a mirrored ceiling.

To make matters even harder, the woman I’ve been pining for tells me she wants to try to find the one and would I please be her dating coach for the week?

Like hell I’ll let her date other men. I’ll coach her on three dates with me.

But the second I take her out, I don’t feel like her teacher. I feel like she’s mine, especially when the first night ends with us tangled up together in that bed.

Each night we grow closer, but this dating experiment forces me to face my greatest fear – whether a man like me is worthy of her love.

Even though I’m already head over heels for her.

My Opinion of The Accidental Dating Experiment:

Two days ago, I told my friend I wanted a comfy, feel-good, romantic, one book girl.

Somehow, this book heard me and jumped to the top of my Audible list.

Plot:

Look, second chance isn’t exactly my favorite trope. You two are perfect for each other but can’t be together for whatever stupid reason.

I still don’t get why they couldn’t be together. Falling in love within a week? That is definitely worth going through the hardship of a long distance relationship.

This time, I let it go. I let it pass, because I’m an adult. And I love when put-together adults get together. I love that they both have their own practices, their own hobbies, and their own personalities that they are sooooo confident in.

The entire plot was endearing. It was original. It was the first time I read about the characters doing a podcast, and as someone who doesn’t listen to any, I was intrigued. I loved it, I loved that it wasn’t everything and yet it wrapped around the plot like a pretty pink ribbon.

This book is SPICY. I is passionate, romantic, cute and SPICY. No major kinks, but more than enough scenes… 😉

Side Characters:

Some were kinda unnecessary. I realize that the author needed to put a cameo of gay people not to seem homophobic, and maybe I missed it, but they could have showed up again. I always thought they would accidently meet her on every date and to comment on how weird it is that Monroe is acting like a completely different person every time they meet.

I mean, that could have been a great running joke!

The rest of the people were okay. The brother’s best friend trop eisn’t exactly felt. So if you plan on reading it for that reason… Don’t.

Someone gifted them a house.

A fan gifted them a house.

WHEN WILL IT BE MY TURN?

So for anyone enjoying this blog, I will gladly take a house. Really, I’ll even accept an apartment?

No? We’ll circle back to it.

Main Female Character:

This woman is sexy, brave, intelligent, a successful businesswoman, kind and passionate.

I’d say I wish I was her, but I already am, so… (You can’t see me, but I’m flipping my hair.)

No, but honestly, it is so refreshing not to roll my eyes every time one of the mains speaks because they need to push the misunderstanding trope.

She didn’t confess her feelings too soon or too late. She didn’t let past bad dates prevent her from finding love in the future. Sure, she overanalysed some of her date’s profiles, but who hasn’t?

I also love the small unique feature about her having a ladybug phase. It’s endearing. Especially because I hope I don’t regret my harry Potter phase (Not a phase), just like she still enjoys ladybugs.

Main Male Character:

I am in a committed and happy marriage.

But OMG. This man had me kicking my feet in bed and giggling on the bus. I mean, the store scene alone, his attention to detail, and his willingness to try things for her… It’s just the way he is utterly and completely head over heels.

It. Is. Adorable.

His rants alone make me giggle. The way he fights with himself when it comes to her. The way his eyes follow her everywhere, the way he looks for her in every room.

Writing Style:

AMAZING. Look, the man was wrestling himself and you could feel it. You can feel, you can hear a back and forth going on in his head between wanting her and wanting better for her.

You can feel the love in his actions, the desperation in her voice, the hope in her eyes, the weariness of past experiences.

All of that, alongside the BRILLIANT voice-overs, is a credit to the writer. Writers are vast and far, but a story-teller. Someone inviting, someone who entraps you within their story, someone who makes you feel the emotions they imagine…

Thank you, Lauren Blakely. I was in a reading slump and this book restored the passion I had within.

Side Note: I didn’t realize this was a part of a series until after finishing it. So no worries if you read this without the rest of the series.
