My Rating of The Dream Guy Next Door:
Summary of The Dream Guy Next Door:
Just my luck – my new next door neighbor is a unicorn.Yep, the British hottie is clearly a mythical man because – get this – he’s a sexy, witty, charming, big-hearted single dad.
Who, wait for it, wants to find Mrs. Right and get hitched.
He’s a once-in-a-blue-moon kind of man, and it’s a darn shame I’m not on the market. If I were, his accent alone would melt me. Add in the fact that he’s a veterinarian, and my animal-loving heart would be flip flopping.
But my heart’s on the mend. I’m a single parent like him, and raising my teenage daughter is my top priority. Plus, falling for a guy who shares your property line is a line you shouldn’t cross.
Still, I’m an outgoing gal, so I do the neighborly thing and offer to be his dating insider.
Surely, I can help this small town’s most eligible bachelor ever navigate his way through all the fantastic single ladies eager to make his acquaintance.
What could possibly go wrong in helping the dream guy next door find his one true love?
So I set him up on one date, two dates, three dates — and I’m about to find out exactly how dangerous my offer is.

My Opinion of The Dream Guy Next Door:
Again, I was in need a simple, sweet, loving novel with no angst and happy ending.
Plot:
This book addresses a topic I have spoken about in my other blog. A topic I feel passionately about.
He wants more kids, but she does not.
This isn’t a spoiler, they reveal it at the start. And it is such a tough topic to get over. It’s something that plagues so many relationships in our generation.
My advice, don’t ignore the importance of this. This is one of the things that you cannot compromise on. Ignoring it, and wishing the other person will change their mind is simply delaying a bigger heartache.
Realiging despite their wild attraction that they are not compatible, he goes on dates with other woman. At first, I hated the notion. It cuts it too close to a cheating trope, even though it isn’t.
This man was a perfect gentleman on every date! I mean, truly, and utterly perfect. He listened to the women, he told them when there was no spark, no inappropriate touching. He ran back home to tell January, and to inform her how bad the date was. He was kind and respectful t the women and to January.
Side Characters:
These might be the most adorable side characters I’ve seen. In a novel, having a lot of side characters can be confusing and challenging. You don’t have enough time to give them enough backstories or personalities without driving attention away from the plot and the main characters.
Somehow, Lauren Blakely managed that feat perfectly. I honestly have no idea how. I felt like I understood the personalities of all of those characters. I understood the history of everyone around them.
Main Female Character:
This woman is sexy, brave, intelligent, a successful businesswoman, kind and passionate.
And yes, I left the exact same sentence that I used in my review of <the Accidental dating experiment> but in my defense, Lauren Blakely has a type. We all do of course. I like to read the occasional naïve scared girl venturing out in the world, but my type is successful business women that know what they want.
Maybe I’m projecting a little bit, but ignore that.
She is exactly what I like reading about. Not to mention that she is a mother. A hardship of it’s own, on top of her business.
Main Male Character:
A man that loves animals will always capture my heart.
The man is a vet for crying out loud! And it runs in the family? Yummy!
He cares about his parents, his patients, his friends, and most importantly his son. He mourns th time he lost with him, and he tries to connect to his dad in a way so endearing that I awed outloud.
Adding a British accent to the mix made me a goner. Infact, I believe she made him too perfect by making him open with his feelings and wants. It’s just too much.
And yes, this one was an audiobook for me.
Writing Style:
What she did with the side characters alone deserves an award.
She combined all of these people together in a way that is beautiful. Lauren Blakely is a true author. I love that she makes all of her characters confident. Lets them know what they want in life. I love the way she captures emotions. The lingering eyes, the wandring thoughts about the person they are falling fall. It is truly fascinating.
My Recommendation for The Dream Guy Next Door:
This. This is the ultimate Sunday afternoon read. You know I post in the morning with the hope that you figure out your next read for the day and this is it. This is not a TBR book. This is an instant download book.
